“Blow the trumpet in Zion, consecrate a fast, call a sacred assembly; gather the people, sanctify the congregation… Let the priests, who minister to YHWH, weep between the porch and the altar. Let them say, ‘Spare Your people, O YHWH, and do not give Your heritage to reproach’” (Joel 2:15–17).
On the sixth day of preparation, we stand at the edge of the most solemn day of the year — the Day of Atonement. This is the moment when the people of Elohim examine themselves before the Holy One who sees all. It is a shadow of the Great White Throne Judgment, when books will be opened and the secrets of every heart revealed (Revelation 20:11–12).
Yet for the faithful, this day is not only about judgment but about hope. The blood upon the mercy seat testifies that the Judge is also the Redeemer. Yeshua, our High Priest, entered once for all into the Most Holy Place with His own blood, obtaining eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:11–12). What the high priest of Israel did once a year with fear and trembling, Messiah has fulfilled forever with triumph.
Day Six is a call to vigilance. It is the night watch before the dawn, the final inspection of our lamps before the Bridegroom comes (Matthew 25:1–13). Just as Israel searched their homes for leaven before Passover, so must we search our hearts now for hidden sin, pride, or unforgiveness. Judgment begins with the household of God (1 Peter 4:17), and the Bride must be found ready.
Examine Your Heart — Pray with David: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23–24).
Guard the Flame — Keep your lamp burning with oil, staying watchful and prayerful so that your light is not dimmed by neglect or distraction (Luke 12:35–36).
Intercede for Others — Like the priests of old, cry out for mercy for your family, your community, and your nation. Stand in the gap as Abraham did, pleading that judgment be tempered with mercy (Genesis 18:23–32).
Fix Your Hope on the Feast — Remember that after Atonement comes the Feast of Tabernacles, a picture of the Bride rejoicing at the wedding supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7–9).
O YHWH,
Righteous Judge and Merciful Redeemer,On this sixth day of preparation, we humble ourselves before You. Search our hearts and cleanse us of hidden faults. Remove pride, heal our thoughts, and prepare us to stand in Your Presence.
We plead for mercy on behalf of our families, our congregations, and our nation. Do not give Your heritage to reproach, but clothe us with white garments of righteousness and keep our names written in the Book of Life.
Keep our lamps burning, O King, and our eyes fixed on the day when Your Bride will be adorned and welcomed into the wedding feast. For Yours is the Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory forever. Amen.
Day Six is the watch before the dawn — a time for sober hearts, burning lamps, and steadfast hope in the mercy of Elohim.
